Wiese emergency release couplers are designed to disconnect safely and in a controlled way.

Marine environments are inherently dynamic. Movement caused by waves, tides or mooring shifts can create sudden forces on loading arms. When these forces exceed safe operating limits, the integrity of the system can be compromised.

Wiese Emergency Release Couplers (ERC) are integrated within the marine loading arm system, typically positioned in the liquid line as part of the swivel assembly. They act as a critical safety mechanism when the loading arm moves beyond its safe operating range.

When activated, the system separates in a controlled manner while automatically sealing both sides through a double valve design. This ensures that product release is minimised, even in emergency situations.

Our emergency release couplers help you:

  • protect loading arms and vessels from excessive mechanical stress
  • minimise spillage during emergency disconnection
  • reduce environmental and safety risks
  • maintain control in dynamic and unpredictable marine conditions

Engineering approach

Each system is engineered based on your specific marine installation, including load limits, movement range and safety requirements.

We focus on:

  • automatic activation prior to safe limits being exceeded
  • minimal product loss between the ball valves
  • integration within the loading arm control system
  • reliable performance in harsh offshore environments
